Chrisman Band and Orchestra Students Shine at Districts
Thanks to the their performance during the district Solo and Small Ensemble Instrumental Music Contest, 10 soloists and three ensembles from William Chrisman’s band and orchestra will represent the school at the State Solo and Small Ensemble contest in Columbia.
Students earning (I) Exemplary ratings and moving on to state are Kayla Stough (violin), Samantha DeShong (cello), Katie Moseley (flute), Kassandra Erazo (clarinet), John Hennessy (alto saxophone), Ally Vaughn (French horn), Ryan Thompson (keyboard mallet), Domnick Braswell (snare drum), Joseph Martinez (piano) and Alex Stutzman (cello). Small ensembles earning a trip to state include the string quartet of Samantha DeShong, Aaron Upton, Kaitlyn Wood and Micheal Gipson, the string duet of Kayla Stough and Samantha DeShong and the string quartet of Kayla Stough, Eli Brown, Heidi Banks and Jenna Gruner.
“It went really well,” Thompson said.
“It was good, Stough said. “(It took) a lot of work … three months worth.”
Individually, Chrisman’s overall results from districts included 10 (I) Exemplary ratings, six (II) Outstanding ratings and five (III) Satisfactory ratings.
The six Bears earning (II) Outstanding ratings included Sarah Erickson (tuba), Sam Wimberley (cello) Jenna Gruner (violin), Leanna Branstetter (viola), and Ian Coburn (violin).
Jose Mendoza (trumpet), Destiny White-Dixon (trumpet), Madeliene Lyons (violin), Heidi Banks (violin) and Katelyn Showman (violin) each earned (III) Satisfactory ratings.
Ensembles earning (II) Outstanding ratings included:
String duet – Katelyn Showman and Amber Wilkin
String duet – Jenna Gruner and Heidi Banks
Flute quartet – Alexandrya Weston, Katie Moseley, Adrian Bernal, and
French Horn quartet – Ally Vaughn, Margaret Beem, Alexis Schulz, and Seth
Percussion ensemble – Kelsey Thompson, Ryan Thompson and Jeffrey Parker
String duet – Ian Coburn and Sam Wimberly
String quartet – Luisa Matamoros Torres, Hannah Kimbrough, Erika Merino, and Darryl Shaw
String duet – Brioenne Burns and Tiara Goulden
The string duet of Madeliene Lyons and Katelin Schulz and the string duet of Jessi Claibourn and Lexi Sharp each earned (III) Satisfactory ratings.
