Truman Student Among Nation’s Best in Prose
Participating in the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) in Lincoln, Neb., Truman High School’s Karly Kinsey was a national finalist in Prose and finished sixth in the nation. Prose is an interpretation of a short story, part of a novel or other published work and corresponds to usual patterns of speech. Kinsey was one of four Truman students entered in the prestigious event.
“The NIETOC is the biggest speech and competitive drama tournament in the world,” said Carl Stafford, director of forensics at Truman and Van Horn High School. “The students did a wonderful job at this highly competitive event.”
Joining Kinsey in Lincoln were Mitchell Pritchard- Humorous Interpretation, Amy Ramirez- Original Oratory and Alex Millard- Dramatic Interpretation, Prose and Duo Interpretation. Kinsey also competed in Duo Interpretation and Dramatic Interpretation. “These students should be congratulated for participating at the highest level,” Stafford said.
Designed to give students an amazing competitive experience, the NIETOC brings together the nation’s best and brightest to compete several disciplines including Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Original Oratory, Duet Acting and Prose.
