Change Challenge Raises Serious ‘Coin’ for Holiday Helpers

Posted December 17, 2015

In the true spirit of the season, ISD schools and employees raised nearly $19,000 during the Holiday Helpers Change Challenge. Holiday Helpers is a program by the district and the Independence School District Foundation (ISDF) helping families in need experience the excitement and joy of the holiday season. And several schools came up with a variety of fun and unique ways to collect donations!

Mallinson Elementary created an angel tree, had a ‘pajama day,’ a ‘crazy sock day,’ a ‘super hero day’ and sold candy cane grams to raise money (and they made a video too). Sycamore Hills had a ‘holiday hat day,’ an ‘elf day’ and an ‘ugly sweater day.’ William Southern had ‘mismatched day,’ ‘80s day’ and ‘career day,’ and like Mallinson, sold candy canes and raised nearly $1,800! Similar events were held in schools across the district.

“Every year the need seems greater,” said Allison Kisner, ISDF director, “and so is the generosity of students and staff.”
