Retired Teachers Bring Holiday Cheer to Fairmount Elementary
Holiday cheer came in the form of ‘goodie bags’ for staff and students of Fairmount Elementary, courtesy of the Liberty Ladies League. More than a dozen members, many of them retired educators, came a callin’ with bags of treats for every boy and girl- regardless of age.
“They (Liberty Ladies League) just wanted to adopt Fairmount for the holidays,” said Allison Mallams, Fairmount fifth-grade teacher. Mallams’ mother is one of the members.
The relationship between Mallams’ class the Liberty Ladies League began in the fall, when the group ‘adopted’ her class, brought treats, played a ‘Royals-themed’ bingo game with them and participated side-by-side with the fifth-graders during their physical education class. “My kids were extremely thankful for what this group of ladies did,” Mallams said. Her class sent ‘thank you’ cards to the group and the group decided they wanted to do something for the entire school this holiday season.
“They’re an amazing group of women,” Mallams said.
