ISD Students Showing “The Leader in Me” to National Educators

Posted February 16, 2016

Nearly 100 educators from across the country converged on Luff Elementary School for The Leader in Me symposium Tuesday, February 16. This marked the first time the event has ever been held in Kansas City. Created to develop leaders with 21st century skills, The Leader in Me is an innovative, school-wide initiative allowing educators to unleash each child’s full potential.

About 100 Luff Elementary students made presentations and lead discussions, demonstrating every child has the ability to be a leader. It truly is a demonstration of leadership, considering they came to school even though it was actually a day off for students in the ISD.

The Leader in Me is based on the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey. Educators at Luff Elementary use those seven habits in their daily curriculum to promote student leadership in the school. More than 2,000 schools, public and private, in nearly 40 countries have embraced The Leader in Me concept.
