ISD Part of Groundbreaking Google Expeditions Program

Posted March 13, 2016

The Independence School District is one of just a select few worldwide chosen to participate in an incredible educational experience sponsored by Google. Google’s Expeditions Pioneer Program, virtual reality learning, is visiting about a dozen ISD schools this month.  The Expeditions program brings abstract concepts to life by allowing students to take virtual reality field trips without ever leaving the classroom. Using ‘Google Glasses’ (smart media devices provided by Google), students can visit destinations like the moon and the Sahara desert. It was incredible to hear the exclamations of surprise and delight from students. “This is an extremely special opportunity,” said Melissa Carver, Luff Elementary’s principal.  You can see the joy and smiles in these photos as students had the opportunity to travel the world from the comfort of their own classroom. The program will eventually be used throughout the ISD.
