Posted March 2, 2016

Members of the Missouri Mavericks hockey team and Mavericks Owner Lamar Hunt, Jr. were among several guests who visited ISD students this week. March 2 is the annual Read Across America celebration. Hunt read to 60 first-grade students at Blackburn Elementary School.  Mavericks players and Mavs mascots ‘Mac’ and ‘Cheese’ divided up between Little Blue Elementary, Spring Branch Elementary, Luff Elementary and Sycamore Hills Elementary.

Read Across America is a nationwide effort to promote reading. It is celebrated in March in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. An American writer and illustrator best known by his pen name, Theodor Seuss Geisel, a/k/a/ Dr. Seuss, is the best-selling children’s author in the world, penning classics like The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
