ISD Robotics Wins Division and Third Overall at World Competition

Posted April 23, 2018

The First Bots of Independence (FBI) robotics team won the Newton Division at the 2018 FIRST Robotics World Championships. The team competed as part of an alliance against six other division winners. After fierce competition, the alliance placed third overall, ranking the FBI among the top 12 teams in the world.

The FBI claimed victory at the Greater Kansas City Regional Competition in March, qualifying for the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Houston. Out of 43 teams that competed at the regional competition, the FBI robotics team is one of only seven teams to advance to World Championships. Each student on the team spent an average of 100 hours preparing and perfecting their robot prior to the competition.

During competition, teams compete in alliances with two other teams in three-on-three matches lasting two minutes and thirty seconds. Members of the FBI Robotics Team take on a variety of responsibilities, including operating the robot, presenting to judges, programming and scouting the competition.
