Eight ISD Students Compete at National Speech & Debate Competition

Eight high school students from the Independence School District competed at the National Speech & Debate Tournament in Fort Lauderdale! Congratulations to Nicolette Bowman, Nick Guppy, Elijah Rojas, Lorinda Ruz, Gabbie Petentler, Maddie Petentler, Philomena Williams and Tyler Zeller. Williams placed fourth out of 236 competitors in Program Oral Interpretation. She is the first student from Van Horn High School and the state of Missouri to advance to the finals in this event. Policy Debate partners Lorinda Ruz and Maddie Petentler placed in the top 34 teams with Petentler named 24th best speaker in the policy division. Congratulations and well done!
