ISD Eighth Grade Students Tour High School Capstone Opportunities
All eighth grade students in the ISD have the opportunity to tour Academy capstone courses prior to enrolling in high school. As part of the AVID program, students learn about each of the ISD Academies, meet with teachers, ask questions and learn about the exciting college and career readiness opportunities in the Independence School District.
Students visited the new ISD Bank, Independence Arts and Technology, All Things Independence and A Taste of Independence along with programs offered at all three ISD high schools. The ISD operates in a wall-to-wall Academy model, allowing every high school student at the district’s three high schools the opportunity to choose their Academy, earn dual credit, an Industry Recognized Credential and an Associate’s Degree if they choose. ISD high school students are starting businesses, flipping houses, teaching classroom lessons and running a bakery.
