ISD Celebrates Historic Academic Growth Across All Grade Levels and Subjects

Posted December 20, 2024

The Independence School District has reached an incredible milestone, one that reflects the dedication, talent, and commitment of our educators, students, and staff. For the first time in our district’s history under the Missouri School Improvement Program 6 (MSIP6), every grade level and every subject achieved a rating of “on target” or “exceeding” in student academic growth.

This achievement comes as part of the district’s Annual Performance Report (APR), which has also increased to 80% this year—a continued sign of growth and excellence.

ISD Superintendent Dr. Dale Herl emphasized the significance of this moment, saying: “While we cannot control the academic levels at which students enter our classrooms, the true mark of exceptional educators lies in the ability to grow students academically throughout the year. Your hard work and dedication are making this happen, and the results speak for themselves.”

This achievement highlights not only the effectiveness of ISD’s educators but also the success of the district’s innovative approaches—including the implementation of the four-day school week. Despite initial questions surrounding the new model, these results demonstrate that ISD is not just making the four-day school week work—it is thriving.

“These results clearly demonstrate that this model is not only working but leading to extraordinary outcomes,” Dr. Herl said. “Your efforts have proven that innovative approaches, combined with dedication and passion, can foster remarkable student growth.”

ISD staff members consistently go above and beyond to provide exceptional learning experiences for every student, and this historic milestone serves as a testament to their efforts.

Dr. Herl closed by expressing deep gratitude to the entire ISD team: “I could not be prouder of our ISD students, staff, and the incredible team that makes this all possible. This milestone exemplifies what teaching is all about: fostering growth and success for every student.”

Congratulations to our students, teachers, staff, and families for their role in this historic success!
