Truman Special Education Teacher Named District Teacher of the Year

Kara Schoff, special education teacher at Truman High School, was named the district’s 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year. Schoff was chosen for the honor by a panel of judges from the Independence community.

Described as patient, kind, hardworking and passionate, Kara is dedicated to helping her students become productive, active citizens in the community. Schoff’s colleagues said she is a valuable resource and goes above and beyond each day to work with teachers, students and staff.

“Kara has a calm presence when faced with student challenges and displays compassion, respect and love for everyone involved,” said Pam Boatright, Truman’s principal.

Schoff is one of 28 Teachers of the Year from across the district.
