ISD Students Receive High Marks at MoTEAM

Creating everything from cutting boards and tote boxes to dog houses and gumball machines, every ISD student participating in the annual MoTEAM (Technology Education Association of Missouri) State Awards Program took home first place awards.

William Chrisman’s Martina King not only took first place in her category, she won a grand award for the best in the state in her category for lathe wood turning. Chrisman’s other first place winners include Dawson Herl, Erica Figley, Brandonn Kuhlman, Brice Sanderlin, Spencer Quick, Garrett Ashford, Drake Ealey, Joshua Arriaza and Seth Curtis.

Van Horn’s Misty Hernandez took first place in her category with her CO2 car, receiving a grand award and an award for a perfect score on her project. She also received a grand award for her refinishing project. Other Van Horn award winners include Raymond Kismet, Jason Godfrey, Mauricio Olmedo, Yano Carrillo, Dakota McMurray, Lewis Gray and Alisha West.

“I am so pleased on how they represented our school,” said Rick Gwinn, Van Horn’s industrial technology teacher and the Greater K.C. Suburban District IT teacher of the year. “The kids did an awesome job.”

Truman’s first place finishers include Melvin Porter, Ashley Foster, Alexis Williams, Jasmine Clevenger, Taylor Handshy, Marie Jackson, Daniel Hotson, Jacob Hayward, Morgan Adrales, Kali Chrisman, Issac Ruiz, Britten Clarke, Rachel Reidel, Ethan Moore, Yousef Qawasmi, Devin Tracy and Nick Cook.

Student projects were entered in a variety of categories ranging from metalwork and woodworking to graphic arts, drafting and photography.
