Chrisman’s Stacy Named Missouri Journalism Teacher of the Year

William Chrisman Journalism Teacher Jason Stacy was named the 2015-16 Missouri Teacher of the Year by the Missouri Journalism Education Association (MJEA). Stacy received the award from Chrisman student Olivia Jaynes, editor of the school newspaper The Envoy and the person who nominated him for the honor.

“Mr. Stacy has changed the way we write stories and cover things going around the school,” Jaynes said in her nomination letter. “He has taught us to write stories using so many different techniques. He has taught us to put heart into our work and make it our own.

“He made me discover the passion I have for journalism and actually makes learning enjoyable.”

Stacy has spent his entire teaching career at William Chrisman- 13 years. He received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri and has a master’s in education from the University of Central Missouri. Before he became a teacher, Stacy worked for the Virginian Pilot newspaper in Norfolk and the Associated Press (AP).

“This doesn’t happen without all of you,” he said to his class following the presentation ceremony. “It is a testament to your work.”

MJEA is the largest scholastic journalism organization in Missouri, created to protect and enhance scholastic journalism throughout the state. MJEA provides resources and educational opportunities, encourages and rewards student excellence and teacher achievement and promotes journalistic professionalism.
