Truman Student Produces Live Radio Show

Jazzmin Matchette, Truman High School junior, produced her first radio show on Hot 103 Jamz KPRS-FM. She produced the September 26 edition of Generation Rap, a community outreach program carried every Saturday morning on the urban contemporary station. The show aired ‘live’ from the Carter Broadcast Group studios in south Kansas City.

“Producing my first radio show was really nerve racking,” Matchette said, “but at the same time, it was a great experience because I love doing anything I can to advance my journalism skills and getting this opportunity helped a lot.” On the air since 1987, Generation Rap is an hour-long, teen-centered discussion on a variety of pertinent topics- Matchette’s show was about teen drug abuse. Her work was well received by listeners and by her teacher.

“Jazzmin has shown her desire to achieve a career in the field of journalism and she has accomplished a lot with this being only her second year in media courses,” said Robyn King, Truman journalism teacher and on-air radio personality and executive producer for Generation Rap. “She has a passion for journalism and it comes across in her writing and producing.”
