Chrisman Runners Rewrite History at Independence City Championship
It was a history-making day for the William Chrisman Cross Country program- both the boys and girls teams won the 2015 Independence City Championship October 5 at Osage Trail Middle School in Fort Osage. So historic, in fact, it had the Chrisman coach scouring the record books.
“Chrisman boys won the varsity city championship for the first time in at least more than 30 years,” said Jason Stacy, Bears cross country coach. “We can’t even find any records showing Chrisman’s boys ever winning, so it’s safe to say it had been a long time and the girls team, according to old yearbooks and records, won the varsity team title for the first time since 1989!
“What a day!”
Chrisman’s memorable performance came just two days after six runners won medals and 18 ran their personal best at the Grain Valley Invitational. Stacy said these recent showings confirms the cross country teams have bought in and their dedication is paying huge dividends.
“I am so proud of the hard work they put in and the effort they gave (at the city championship),” he said. “It is an exciting time for Chrisman cross country!”
