ISD Students and Staff Raise $34,000 for United Way

Dunk tanks, pie the principal and duct tape the principal were just a few of the fun and creative incentives used in the ISD to raise $34,620 for the United Way of Greater Kansas City!

Korte Elementary teachers volunteered to be hit with water balloons by classes that raised the most money.  Sunshine Center principal Patti White took pies in the face when her staff reached their fundraising goal.  Procter principal Amy Hawley and teachers also volunteered to get hit with pies as a fundraising incentive for students.  The all school assembly was full of smiles and belly laughs as the students enjoyed seeing their efforts recognized. Blackburn Elementary teachers and principal Sara Terrill had multiple rounds in the dunk tank as students got to choose who to dunk!  Bridger teachers also found themselves in the dunk tank as their students raised the most in donations of all ISD schools.

Benton Elementary nearly doubled their donations from the campaign last year.  Principal Leslie Hochsprung allowed students to duct tape her to the wall as an incentive for their fundraising efforts.  One student brought in a box full of change which totaled $58 to donate to the United Way. The celebrations at our schools were incredible, seeing the excitement and joy on the kids’ faces.  Our staff created some unforgettable moments for our students while reminding them what this is all about, helping others in need. It was heartwarming to witness the kindness, generosity and giving spirit of our Independence community! “The United Way helps many individuals within our community,” said Dr. Dale Herl, ISD superintendent. “It is such a great cause and I’m proud of our district’s efforts to make Independence and the entire greater Kansas City area a better place to live.”
