ISD Student Maddox Dockins Named National Merit Finalist

Truman High School senior Maddox Dockins has been honored through the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program. This is a nationwide academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Only 15,000 students are named finalists out of the 50,000 highest scorers of the SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Dockins is heavily involved in academic and extracurricular opportunities at Truman High School. He is a Section Leader in Band, Varsity Letterman and starter for the football team, Team Leader for Youth Advisory Council, Boys State Alum and Citizen of the Week nominee at Boys State, Lincoln Douglas Debate National Qualifier, Debate Chair of the Independence Winter Classic, member of the CFA Leader Academy, Two-Time Academic Letterman, recipient of the William McCoy Memorial Prize for Academic Excellence and member of the Math and Physics Institute.

Truman principal Pam Boatright says, “Maddox is a true example of a scholar athlete. He is not only a leader on the field but is a strong leader in the classroom and within the community. He is highly respected by his peers and teachers and is the first one to step up when a need arises.” 

Scholarship winners are selected beginning in March based on academic records, test scores, a high school official’s written recommendation, the student’s activities, demonstration of leadership and the finalist’s essay.
