ISD Summer Arts Program Fosters Student Talent

More than 80 talented writers, musicians, artists and performers from the Independence School District and nearby districts sharpen their skills at the George Caleb Bingham Academy of the Arts summer program. Throughout the five-week program, students focus on creative writing, music, theatre or visual art for four hours daily plus extended hours for field trips, including theatre performances.

Thirty-nine students from Truman, Van Horn and William Chrisman are attending this summer’s program, themed “Jackson County Live!” Some students choose to perfect their passion for an area of the arts while others use the program as an opportunity to pick up a new craft. A semester’s fine arts credit is awarded to all students, and some are eligible for dual credit through MCC-Blue River.

All are welcome to attend the Showcase of the Arts to experience the hard work of these talented students, including art displays, creative writing pieces and performances in dance, theatre, and music.
