26William Chrisman’s Tomasi Tuione (in blue) led Team Missouri to the title in the 23rd annual Missouri Kansas All Star Wrestling Challenge at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Tuione’s opponent, Ron Broyles from Olathe East, took fourth in state, but that didn’t stop Tuione. Needing a pin to win it for Team Missouri, Tuione pinned Broyles to give Missouri a 30-28 win.

Tuione (43-2) finished third in the state this year at 285 pounds and was selected to participate in the prestigious event pitting the best in each weight class from the Missouri side of the metro against their Kansas counterparts.

“I’m so proud of Tomasi,” said Mick Cronk, Chrisman’s wrestling coach. “To know that I helped him and watched him grow over the last couple of years gave me a great feeling. He’s done an amazing job!

For Tuione, it was a night he will never forget.

“It was pretty cool to win it for Missouri,” he said. “I just had to keep calm and wrestle my match.

“I feel famous. It’s all pretty exciting.”
