Application Process

Step 1 – Complete the online application.

Step 2 – Upon successful review of your application, the Substitute Services Office will contact you with additional information and date/time for your interview and orientation.

Step 3 – Substitutes will come to our office for fingerprinting, employment paperwork, and interview.

Step 4 – After successful orientation and cleared background checks (FBI fingerprints, criminal record, child abuse, and neglect) are received from the state, you will be contacted to begin work. 

Requirements

The Independence School District hires substitute teachers, substitute nurses, substitute secretaries, and substitutes for Early Childhood Education throughout the school year.

  • Substitute Teachers must have at least 60 college hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Substitute nurses must be currently licensed to practice as a BSN, RN or LPN/LVN in Missouri and have current CPR certification.
  • Substitute Secretaries must have a high school diploma or its equivalency, and secretarial/clerical training and/or experience is   preferred.
  • Substitute Early Childhood workers must have a high school diploma or its equivalency, with training and/or experience in working   with young children preferred.
